The two common types of electrical connections are the series connection and the parallel connection. At home, we prefer parallel connections. When devices are added in a parallel connection, each device can be individually controlled and has its own dedicated on and off switch. In other words, we can switch on the devices that we want to use while keeping others switched off. Another significant advantage of a parallel connection is that all the connected devices get the same voltage. This ensures that they provide the rated output.
In comparison, a series connection does not allow individual device control and all the devices are either switched on or switched off at any given time. It also experiences a voltage drop across each connected device and hence the devices do not get the rated voltage.
Hope this helps.
