What is the purpose of the United Nations?

The United Nations has been in existence for over seventy years. It was created at the end of World War II to accomplish several goals.


One goal is to keep peace in the world. After World War I, the League of Nations was created to try to prevent future wars. However, the League of Nations failed for several reasons, including not having enough power to back up its actions. The United Nations was created to help keep peace in the world. It has more power than the League of Nations to enforce its orders. For example, the United Nations helped South Korea in 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea.


The United Nations also wants to promote friendly relationships between nations. It supports the concepts of self-determination and equal rights. By promoting friendly relations, the United Nations can decrease the likelihood of war occurring.


Another goal is to help people throughout the world who are suffering. The United Nations provides humanitarian, economic, social, and cultural assistance to people throughout the world who are in need of some form of assistance. For example, UNICEF is an agency of the United Nations that works to help children and their moms. The World Food Programme works to deal with issues regarding hunger and malnutrition.


The United Nations plays an important role in the world today.

As a software engineer, I need to sometimes describe a piece of code as something that lacks performance or was not written with performance in mind. Is 'efficate' a word in English?

I routinely hear the word "efficate" being used. For example, "The most powerful way to efficate a change in the system is to participate." I do not find entries for this word in common English dictionaries, but I do not have an unabridged dictionary. I have checked the OED (I'm not sure if it is considered unabridged), and it has no entry for "efficate". It does have an entry for "efficiate", which is used in the same way. Wordnik has an entry for "efficate" with over 1800 hits, thus providing some evidence for the frequency of use. I personally like the word and find the meaning very clear and obvious when others use it. If it's not currently an "officially documented" word, perhaps its continued use will result in it being better documented.
