What can people do to help preserve the environment for the next generation?

I'm glad to hear you are interested in helping to protect our environment! There are lots of ways to help preserve nature for future generations, most of which fall into the categories of prevention or reparation. Acts of prevention are those which help to avoid pollution or degradation of the environment. This includes acts like recycling and composting waste rather than sending it all to a landfill, using renewable energy sources, and choosing to walk or bike as opposed to riding in a car. Acts of reparation are those which are intended to help fix some of the damage that has already been done to our planet. This can include planting trees or bushes to help clean carbon dioxide from the air, picking up litter in your community, and donating to conservation efforts.


There are plenty of things you can do in your life to help preserve our environment, it mostly depends on the amount of time and money you can spare. One way that people can help reduce the amount of deforestation of our planet is to buy second-hand books or use an e-reader to download digital copies of books. Recycling is probably the easiest thing you can do to help prevent environmental degradation, but you may also choose to boycott companies which do not practice environmentally-friendly production or advocate for the use of more eco-friendly materials. For example, plastic-like material made from corn could replace commercial, non-biodegradable cups in the food service industry.


People should also consider trying to live in harmony with what nature already has to offer in the form of light, air, and water. Instead of using air conditioning in the warm seasons, open the windows to let in a breeze! When reading indoors, try sitting by a window for light rather than using an electric lamp. Collecting rainwater to use in gardening is a great way to reduce reliance on municipal water services.

Is 'efficate' a word in English?

I routinely hear the word "efficate" being used. For example, "The most powerful way to efficate a change in the system is to participate." I do not find entries for this word in common English dictionaries, but I do not have an unabridged dictionary. I have checked the OED (I'm not sure if it is considered unabridged), and it has no entry for "efficate". It does have an entry for "efficiate", which is used in the same way. Wordnik has an entry for "efficate" with over 1800 hits, thus providing some evidence for the frequency of use. I personally like the word and find the meaning very clear and obvious when others use it. If it's not currently an "officially documented" word, perhaps its continued use will result in it being better documented.
